First time visitor to Wanderlust While Working?
Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet. My name is Danielle, the founder of Wanderlust While Working, and I travel with my boyfriend Mike mostly throughout the United States and sometimes beyond! While he doesn’t actively blog on this site, he appears in most of my adventures so here are a few things you should know about us and what you’ll find on this blog.
We Are Not Digital Nomads
While we may daydream about one day retiring and doing more long term travel, Mike and I both have full time jobs that leave us with limited time for adventures. As a result, we only post when we have something new to post about and include a lot of posts about our weekend trips throughout the Northeastern US where we live. This also means that our itinerary posts are typically for a few days or at most a two week road trip (like this one to the Mighty 5 Utah National Parks) since we have limited PTO.
We are Avid Hikers
I wasn’t a huge hiker before I met Mike, but it’s become one of our favorite activities to do together. Not only is it fun to discover the beauty of nature on the trail, but it also keeps us active and in shape! Now we are very avid hikers and plan a lot of our vacations around outdoor activities instead of to big cities. One of our favorite places to hike is in the Adirondacks in Upstate New York where we spend a lot of weekends in the summer.
If you’re interested in our hiking posts, be sure to check out our Day Hiking section of the blog which includes a scale for how we rate the difficulty of hikes in all of our posts. While we do like to camp also, you won’t find multi day backpacking trips on this site. We stick to hikes we can complete in one day. You can see all our gear we use on our hiking and camping trips on our Gear page.
We are Craft Beer Connoisseurs
Another activity Mike and I love doing together is trying new craft beers (or wines, we’re not picky). Wherever we go, whether it’s after a long day of hiking or exploring a city we like to grab some dinner and try out a few of the local breweries. Lately we’ve been on a New England IPA kick, but we love trying all kinds of beer whether it’s wheat beers, pale ales, amber ales, or sours. We LOVE Visiting National Parks
One of Mike and I’s first big vacations together was to Denver, Colorado. While there we took a day trip up to Rocky Mountain National Park and fell in love with visiting these beautiful places. On our next national park trip we visited Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park in Florida and ended up finding Passport to Your National Parks, a book of 400+ National Park Sites that you can get a passport stamp at as you visit each location.
Now I love a good challenge and crossing items off a list, so it has become a bit of a game trying to get as many passport stamps as we can as we visit different around different parts of the US. Check out our America the Beautiful page for more information about the National Parks we visit and a cool map of all the locations mentioned in the passport book!
